Library Services

The library is the heart of the Academy and an integral part of the mission of the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (MNMA). It supports lifelong learning through excellence in teaching, research, consultancy and public service in a challenging and supportive learning environment where the pursuit of knowledge, creative enquiry, critical thinking and applied skills are cultivated and sustained.

The MNMA Library strives to provide users with a wide range of information services that meet their academic and research needs. Library and information resources are available in both printed and electronic formats, including books, periodicals, newspapers, journal articles, theses, dissertations and other academic materials.

Services provided by the Library include lending, user training, literature searches, membership registration, reference services and access to special collections.

Online Academic Resources

The following academic platforms provide access to scholarly literature, journals, research publications and other educational resources.

Library Users

Users of the MNMA Library include members of the MNMA community and other authorised users from outside the Academy, including researchers from within Tanzania and abroad.

Access Procedures:
Access to the MNMA Library is currently free of charge. All users are required to comply with the Library's rules and regulations.

Membership Registration

  1. All registered students and academic members of staff of the Academy are entitled to use and borrow library materials, including books, manuals and other publications.
  2. Other employed members of MNMA and staff from other cadres may use the Library. However, they may not borrow materials unless special permission is granted by the Rector or Chief Librarian.
  3. External users who are not students or staff members of the Academy may use or borrow library materials subject to special permission from the Rector.

Library Rules

  1. The Library shall be used for reading, browsing and borrowing information materials by eligible students and academic staff members.
  2. All employed MNMA staff from other cadres may use Library Services but may not borrow information materials unless otherwise authorised.
  3. Persons who are neither students nor employees of the Academy may use the Library only with permission from the Deputy Rector – Academic, Research and Consultancy or the Librarian.
  4. No document shall be removed from the Library until it has been officially issued to the borrower, inspected and checked by Library staff at the exit counter.
  5. Library materials taken from the shelves for consultation must not be re-shelved by users. They should be left on the designated tables for Library staff to re-shelve.
  6. Members of the teaching staff may borrow up to five (5) information materials for a period of seven (7) days.
  7. Students may borrow up to three (3) information materials from the lending collection for a period of three (3) days.
  8. The Chief Librarian reserves the right, subject to the relevant approval procedures, to restrict the borrowing of certain categories of Library materials.
  9. The person under whose name an item is borrowed is solely responsible for returning it. Borrowing materials using another person's library credentials or borrowing materials on behalf of another person is prohibited.
  10. Library materials must be handled carefully. Users must not mark, damage or mutilate books or other information materials.
  11. Theft of Library information materials is considered a serious offence and may result in disciplinary action in accordance with Academy regulations.
  12. Borrowers should inspect information materials before borrowing them and report any existing damage to Library staff.
  13. Information materials may be reserved. Reserved materials will be returned to the shelves if they are not claimed within the period specified by the Library after notification.
  14. The MNMA Library Committee reserves the right to withdraw Library facilities from any person who repeatedly violates Library rules or whose conduct negatively affects other Library users.
